Stress & The Effect on Your Eyes

Relaxing in nature, with Karl.

This week, we wanted to talk about how stress can affect your eyes. We all deal with different levels of stress, but no matter how big or small, it can have a significant impact on your eyes!

Some symptoms are eye fatigue, eyelid twitching, floaters, and an increase in blurry vision. Studies show that when a person is stressed, it causes the pupils to dilate, allowing light to enter the back of the eye in an attempt to see potential threats more clearly. High levels of adrenaline (stress induced) can also cause an increase in eye pressure which can be quite painful.

If you are ever feeling stressed out, here are some things you can do:

  • Take long, deep breaths
  • Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds (Rule of 20) allowing the eyes to take a break
  • Reduce the amount of screen time you have daily
  • Wear prescription glasses- this decreases the chance for eye fatigue and eyestrain. Clearer images can also improve your work experience.
  • Get a few minutes of physical activity or exercise
  • Give yourself a full 8 hours of sleep a night
  • Do things that make you happy!

We hope this helps. SEE you soon!
