How often should I get an eye exam?

"Do I really need an eye exam if my vision seems fine?" 

The answer is yes!

For most adults, with healthy eyes, we recommend a comprehensive eye exam at least once per year. 

The purpose of an eye exam is not only to update any eyewear prescriptions that you may have, or address symptoms such as dry or red eye, blurred vision, or loss of vision.

A comprehensive eye exam also serves the purpose of early detection of general health issues such as diabetes or high blood pressure and can lead to the early discovery of eye related diseases such as glaucoma or macular degeneration! 

The earlier you are able to detect an issue with your health or the health of your eyes, the better your chances of managing the issue as it progresses will be.

Early detection may help to increase both your overall health and the longevity of your vision as you age.

If you're over 60, your annual exams are even more important as your risk for cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration increases with age.

Children should have their first exam at around six months, another at around age three, and again before going into school or first grade!
