This week is declared Contact Lens Health Week by The American Optometric Association and the CDC!
So, in honor of this health awareness week, we’ve prepared a few tips to keep your eyes healthy and your contact lenses clean.
Here are our top suggestions to make sure your contact lenses are properly cared for and your eyes are supported throughout your day to day activities:
Always wash and dry your hands before touching your contact lenses!
This prevents dirt and grime from making its way onto your lenses and being trapped on the surface of your eye, which can cause irritation.
Standard tap water can contain pollutants that remain on your lenses and may irritate your eyes. Don’t rinse your lenses in water and do your best to keep water out of your eyes when wearing contact lenses.

Make sure to use fresh contact lens solution, instead of just topping it off! This helps to ensure that your lenses are kept clean and properly disinfected for their next use.
Always adhere to your prescribed contact lens replacement schedule. Wearing the same lenses for too long, can have negative impacts on the health of your eyes. So, remember to get your replacements before you run out!
Remember to keep a pair of glasses with you at all times, just in case! If you have irritation of the eyes, lose a contact, or just need to give your eyes a break from wearing your contact lenses, it’s important to have the option to switch to glasses if needed.
If you are experiencing dry or red eyes, even when your contact lenses are out, then it’s time to get your eyes checked!
Dr. Punzal will make sure that your current contact lens prescription is up to date and you do not have any further issues that may be affecting the health of your eyes and vision.
Even if your contact lenses are comfortable and everything appears normal, it’s important to remember to schedule your annual eye exam checkup!
An annual eye exam will help to monitor the health of your eyes, support your vision, and ensure that you are up to date with all of your measurements and prescriptions!
