Health & Safety (COVID-19)
At Punzal Vision, the health and safety of our patients and staff members are at the forefront of our operations. We want to assure you that we continuously monitor the COVID-19 situation to stay well-informed, and we regularly update procedures within our office to comply with CDC and government recommendations. We are doing everything we can to promote a safe and secure office environment.
The American Optometric Association recognizes the critical importance of ensuring access to essential health care, including urgent and emergent care provided by Doctors of Optometry, which can alleviate burdens on urgent care and emergency departments. Daily, we aid patients with eye emergencies and treatment of vision threatening diseases. For this reason, Punzal Vision continues to be operational. We have put in practice additional precautions for the safety of our patients and staff members.
If you or a household member are feeling ill, are awaiting COVID-19 test results, or if you have traveled outside of Kaua’i within the past 14 days, please call our office at 808-278-8383. We will assess whether we can push your appointment out to a later date or provide you with telehealth services. Please refrain from visiting Punzal Vision until we have determined what is best for you and the safety of our office.
Steps We are Taking to Ensure Your Safety:
Limiting Exams Per Hour: In order to maintain Social Distancing and to thoroughly clean exam rooms and equipment after each patient encounter, we are scheduling exams at 30 minute intervals.
Kupuna Hours: The first 1.5 hours of clinic (8:30 am – 10:00 am) are designated as Kupuna Hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We reserve these special appointment spots for patients over 60 or for those with health conditions.
Limiting the Number of Patients: Per Social Distancing guidelines outlined by the CDC, we are actively limiting the number of patients in the office. Appointments are required, and we are not accepting any walk-ins. We have also rearranged the Reception area to better accommodate this.
Temperature Check Upon Arrival: We perform health checks on our staff members daily, including taking their temperatures. We utilize the contactless thermometer to check the temperatures of all patients prior to proceeding with the exams.
Protective Equipment: All staff members wear masks, and we kindly ask our patients to please come in with masks as well. We also advise all patients to utilize the hand sanitizer at the front desk upon entering and leaving the office.
Frame Selection Safety: We provide patients with sanitized trays to place frames after trying them on. All frames are disinfected after patient contact.
Cleaning of Equipment and Surfaces: After each patient exam, all equipment and places with patient contact are cleaned thoroughly. Our staff has increased the frequency of wiping down and sanitizing areas throughout the office. After hours, professional cleaners thoroughly clean the entire office on a daily basis.
Recommend Glasses Over Contact Lenses: The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends that people wear glasses instead of contact lenses in order to reduce the number of times they touch their face. This aligns with the CDC recommendation to avoid contact with the face to prevent the spread of coronavirus and other infectious diseases. If patients must wear contact lenses, we strongly advise daily disposable lenses.
For the next few weeks, we will be reducing our operations to only our days of clinic.
Although we are closed on these days, patients may text message or email, and we will respond as necessary outside of operating hours, or address non urgent matters on the next business day.
Finally, it is our sincere hope and prayer that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic does not affect you or your loved ones. Your safety is our highest priority and we truly appreciate the trust that you place in Punzal Vision. We look forward to continuing to provide excellent patient care to all of you. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
Mahalo and take care,
